Autumn Term 1

Literacy

In Literacy this half term, Year 4 will be looking at stories which raise issues and dilemmas, newspaper recounts and plays. Whilst working on these topics we will be looking at the purpose, structure and language used in different types of writing and as always using VCOP to improve our writing.

Numeracy

In Numeracy we will be developing our knowledge of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing numbers. We will also be learning more about shapes and measures. Education City is a computer program which all the children use independently to enhance their learning in Numeracy.

Topic

Our Topic this half term is ‘Who’d visit Wigan?’ - looking at the Wigan area during different historical periods. In Science we will be learning about circulation in the human body.

Music

Year 4 will be learning to play the samba drums as part of the Wider Opportunities Music Programme.

P.E.

For P.E. Year 4 will be continuing to work with Tim from Wigan Sports and will participate in a wide range of sports activities. We would like to take this time to remind you that your child needs to have a full P.E kit in school at all times – white t- shirt, red shorts and a pair of pumps. (No earrings please)

Homework

Homework will be given out on Fridays to be handed back in on Tuesdays. Remember to practise spellings and read each night. Homework book must be signed at the back by Parents/Carers.

Thank you for your continued support.
